Fireworks, food, and fun—that’s what the Fourth of July is all about! Whether you’re traveling this summer or just looking for a reason to take a road trip, here are some of the most exciting, unique, and family-friendly ways to celebrate America’s birthday from coast to coast.
You can’t get more patriotic than Boston on the 4th. The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular draws huge crowds each year, with live music, a full orchestra, and a jaw-dropping fireworks display over the Charles River. But don’t miss the Freedom Trail walking tours—they’re a great way to soak in some history before the night lights up.
Philly goes big with its Wawa Welcome America celebration. We’re talking 16 days of events leading up to July 4, including free museum access, block parties, concerts, and one epic fireworks show on the Ben Franklin Parkway. It’s also one of the only places where you can actually hear the Liberty Bell ring (well, sort of).
It doesn’t get more iconic than fireworks on the National Mall. With monuments glowing in the background and the U.S. Capitol in view, this is a bucket list experience. There’s also a National Independence Day Parade and a free concert as part of “A Capitol Fourth.” Just be sure to get there early—it gets crowded fast!
This little Dallas suburb puts on a show that rivals big cities. Kaboom Town! features one of the top-ranked fireworks shows in the country, paired with an air show, live music, and plenty of food trucks. The event draws more than 500,000 people, so expect a party!
Set against the stunning Gateway Arch, this celebration includes live concerts, air shows, and fireworks over the Mississippi River. Known as “America’s Biggest Birthday Party,” Fair Saint Louis is perfect for families with its interactive zones and all-day activities.
If you like country music with your fireworks, Nashville is calling. Let Freedom Sing! features big-name performers (past years have included Brad Paisley and Old Dominion) and a massive pyrotechnics display synced to live music by the Nashville Symphony. It’s like a concert and a fireworks show had a baby—and it’s awesome.
While fireworks have been on and off the schedule in recent years due to fire risk, Mount Rushmore still offers a patriotic backdrop for celebrating. There are ranger-led programs, flag-raising ceremonies, and stunning views. Even without fireworks, it’s a powerful place to be on the 4th.
The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks is a televised tradition, but seeing it in person? Unforgettable. The fireworks launch from barges on the East River, lighting up the NYC skyline. Arrive early to snag a waterfront spot, and if crowds aren’t your thing, consider a fireworks cruise instead.
This mountain town kicks off Independence Day with the First July 4th Parade in the Nation, starting at 12:01 AM on the dot. Yep, they mean midnight. Add in a full day of festivities and fireworks later that night, and you’ve got yourself a non-stop celebration.
Who says you can’t celebrate freedom with your toes in the sand? Huntington Beach throws a beachside bash complete with a parade, pier festival, and one of the best seaside fireworks displays around. Bring a beach blanket and enjoy the all-American vibes with an ocean breeze.
There’s something extra special about the way small towns celebrate the Fourth of July. It’s community, nostalgia, and patriotism all rolled into one. Here are a few places where you can enjoy down-home fun and all-American charm.
Wherever you are in the US, chances are there’s a unique Independence Day celebration not far away. So pack your red, white, and blue, grab your lawn chairs, and hit the road to experience one of the most festive times of the year.
