In 2025, America marks a powerful milestone—80 years since the end of World War II. From August 30 to September 2, travelers have a rare opportunity to witness living history during a series of special events in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, honoring the legacy of those who helped secure peace—on the front lines, at home, and even on stage.
The official Commemoration Ceremony takes place on September 2, 2025, aboard the Battleship Missouri, the very ship where the Japanese surrender was signed in Tokyo Bay in 1945. This event, co-hosted by the Battleship Missouri Memorial and Pearl Harbor Aviation Museum, offers a chance to walk in the footsteps of heroes and honor the Greatest Generation.
As part of the tribute, a special spotlight is being placed on legendary entertainer Bob Hope, whose unwavering support for the troops made him a beacon of comfort during the darkest days of the war. New colorized photos of Hope during his WWII USO tours have just been released—capturing the magic he brought to soldiers across the globe.
From bases to battleships, Bob Hope and his troupe traveled more than 30,000 miles performing for troops—earning him the title “First in the Hearts of Servicemen.” His blend of humor and heart made him more than an entertainer; he was a lifeline to laughter and home. Today, his legacy continues through the work of the Bob & Dolores Hope Foundation, one of the proud supporters of the Commemoration events.
While you’re in Oʻahu, dive deeper into America’s story with a visit to two of Hawaii’s most powerful historic sites:
