If you’re searching for the best things to do in St. George Utah with kids, let me share one of our absolute favorite family adventures: the slot canyon at Pioneer Park. As a mom who loves getting outdoors with my kids, but also values easy, low-stress outings, this spot is pure gold.
It’s fun, it’s free, and best of all, it feels like a big adventure without requiring a big hike.

The Pioneer Park slot canyon in St. George is one of those rare places that keeps kids engaged from start to finish.
Instead of a long trail, you get:
My kids instantly went into “explorer mode,” squeezing through rock walls and leading the way. It’s hands-on, fun, and just the right amount of difficulty to keep things exciting.
From a mom’s perspective, I loved that the area is contained enough to keep track of everyone without constantly stressing. It feels adventurous, but still manageable.

Located right in the heart of St. George, Pioneer Park is incredibly easy to access, making it ideal for families.
The “hike” to the slot canyon is short and more like a walk from where you park. Once you arrive, the real fun begins. Kids can climb, crawl, and explore at their own pace, and no two visits feel exactly the same.
The red rock scenery is absolutely stunning, especially in the early morning or evening when the light makes the canyon walls glow.
1. Wear sturdy shoes
The slickrock can be uneven and a little slippery. Sneakers or hiking shoes with good grip are best.
2. Bring water, even for short visits
St. George gets hot quickly, and there’s very little shade.
3. Go early or near sunset
Not only is it cooler, but the lighting is beautiful for photos, and let’s be honest, those family adventure pics matter.
4. Set simple boundaries
While the slot canyon itself is kid-friendly, other parts of Pioneer Park have higher ledges. We always remind our kids to stay where we can see them.
5. Plan extra time
This is not a quick in-and-out stop. Kids will want to climb everything, and you’ll probably enjoy it just as much.

One of the reasons Pioneer Park stands out among things to do in St. George Utah with kids is how much variety it offers.
Beyond the slot canyon, you’ll find:
We always end up staying longer than planned, and somehow, no one complains.
If you’re building a family itinerary for St. George, the Pioneer Park slot canyon should be at the top of your list.
It’s:
As a mom, these are the kinds of outings I’m always looking for: simple, memorable, and full of those little moments where your kids are genuinely having fun.

There are plenty of great things to do in St. George Utah with kids, but the slot canyon at Pioneer Park is one of those experiences that just sticks with you.
It’s the laughter echoing off canyon walls, the excitement of discovery, and the joy of being outside together.
And if your kids are anything like mine, they’ll be asking before you even leave: “Can we come back again?”
