Quirky Accommodations in Every State

Sometimes the most memorable part of a trip is the little-known roadside attraction you saw or the unique decor in the place you stayed. We’re highlighting a location in every state that will certainly be memorable, should you choose to stay in any of these hotels, motels, inns, houses, bed and breakfasts or resorts.


Alabama
At the Secret Bed & Breakfast Lodge, you can stay in a themed cottage like a jail house, a tree house, or a nautical cottage, among other accommodations. Imagine the stories when you tell your friends you spent a night in jail!

Alaska
This is a perfect romantic getaway – stay in a Dome with Views of the Aurora Borealis. The curved window at the top of the dome allows you to lay in bed while watching the Northern Lights and the stars.

Arizona
If outer space interests you then you’re going to like the Best Western Space Age Lodge. With space age decor, including a UFO on the roof, this hotel is out of this world!

Arkansas
Animal enthusiasts will love staying at the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, where you will find adult-only accommodations as well as ones that are family-friendly. The Refuge is a nonprofit organization and the cost of your stay goes toward the care of their animal residents.

California

Colorado

Connecticut

Delaware

Florida

Georgia

When I think of Hawaii, I think of picturesque views and volcanos. The Volcano House gives you both! Situated 4000 feet above sea level, you can walk on the edge of an actual active volcano! 16 campsites are also available, nestled in eucalyptus groves.

Idaho
Big Idaho Potato Hotel: Silly, chic & indeed unique! This giant spud is actually a cozy getaway for two. With a silo turned into a spa retreat and cozy accommodations, this is a fun home away from home.

Illinois
Definitely unique, this School Bus Home on AirBNB is a solar-powered tiny home that used to be a school bus! Now with a permanent lake-front view and an interior finished in hand-milled pine, you’ll enjoy stargazing, fishing and swimming, too!

Indiana
You’ll be treated like royalty when you stay at Clayshire Castle. Full of medieval ambiance, each room has a theme such as the Tapestry Room or the Enchanted Forest Room.

Iowa
Hotel Grinnell was a junior high school until the late 1970’s, and now it’s an updated, eco-conscious boutique hotel. Little touches here and there pay homage to the educational history of the building with chalkboards in each room and room key card sleeves that look like hall passes.

Kansas
C&W Ranch Bed and Breakfast is a true working ranch. Get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life and enjoy home prepared meals and relax in the peaceful setting here.

In fact, I highly recommend, when you are in Vegas, take a walk down the strip and stop in the various hotels so you can see them all for yourself. But, we wanted to suggest a place to stay that is out of this world… Little A’Le’Inn! Located a hop, skip & a jump away from Area 51, if exploring the possibility of other life forms is something you’re interested in, this is the place you should stay!

New Hampshire
Great for families or couples, the Adventure Suites feature 17 different themed suites. So whether you’re looking for a Love Shack, Dragon’s Lair or Wolf Den, you’ll find it here.

New Jersey
Dust off your blue suede shoes because Summer Nites is a 50s themed bed & breakfast. It has both modern amenities and features a game room with a vintage pinball game. The bed and breakfast is just a short 2 blocks away from the Wildwood beach and boardwalk, too.

New Mexico
At Hotel Luna Mystica you can stay one of 20 1950’s vintage trailers. Each trailer is decorated uniquely in 1950s style, but has been upgraded with modern amenities and each has it’s own deck, where you can sit out and enjoy the starry sky.

New York

North Carolina

North Dakota

Oklahoma

Utah
At Capitol Reef Resort, you can choose to stay cabins, Conestoga wagons or teepees, and take in your majestic surroundings while relaxing in the heated pool or hot tub.

Vermont
The Trapp Family Lodge is an Austrian-style resort inspired by “The Sound of Music”. Enjoy upscale amenities, outdoor activities, and mountain views while you relax at this unforgettable vacation destination.

Virginia

Washington
