Take five friends, “lock” them in a room, and give them an hour to try to escape… that’s our experience with The Escape Game in a nutshell, but what we experienced was so much more!

With multiple rooms to discover clues and extraordinary decor that made us feel like we were really in a forest, then a cabin, and finally a gold mine, we enjoyed all 50 minutes (yep, we escaped with 10 minutes to spare!) and made Uncle Clyde proud.

Who is Uncle Clyde? Well, we learned about him as we entered the Gold Rush Escape Game. Uncle Clyde, who was a prospector during the 1800s California gold rush, passed away and left us his gold. The only problem was that we had to find it before the news traveled of his passing and the rest of the town came looking for it.

Our group was made up of escape room newbies and veterans, and we all enjoyed participating in finding our way to the gold and out of the mine. I myself have done about a dozen escape rooms, and this was by far my favorite because it had a great variety of puzzles and I can’t help but mention the decor again. It simply didn’t seem like we were in a room. Every square inch was covered in themed decorations from animals we encountered in the forest to a bearskin rug on the floor of the cabin and even mining hats once we ventured into the gold mine.

The Escape Game can be found in 26 locations across 14 states, and each location offers a variety of rooms you can try to escape from. Some of the themed escape games include:

  • The Heist – pull off the ultimate heist by taking a Monet painting from the museum.
  • Playground – finish all your assignments in class to be able to leave and start your summer.
  • The Depths – investigate an abandoned laboratory deep in the ocean.

Not all locations have the same escape games, so find the location nearest to you on their website and see which games intrigue you the most!

If you’ve never tried an escape room before, trust me when I say it’s an adventure you’ll never forget!

Here’s a sneak peek…

The next room I plan to try to escape from is Prison Break where the group you are with is split into two and each group is locked in a separate jail cell. Communication will be key as we all try to escape! I’m going to try this one with my family, ranging in age from 13-45, because families are great at communicating, right? We’ll see!
