A Memorable Family Adventure: Hiking in Arches National Park with Timed Entry

Embarking on a hiking adventure in Arches National Park with kids is a wonderful way to introduce them to the beauty of nature and the wonders of geological formations. The implementation of timed entry adds a new layer of organization to the park, ensuring a more enjoyable and less crowded experience for visitors. We recently visited and can’t wait to go back!

One of the most iconic hikes in Arches National Park is the trek to Delicate Arch. The trail, although moderately challenging, provides breathtaking views and rewards those who persevere. The kids will be captivated as they catch their first glimpse of the majestic Delicate Arch through the sandstone fins. The excitement builds as they approach the arch, and the scale of its grandeur becomes apparent. Witnessing the Delicate Arch is a memory that will last a lifetime for the entire family. If your kids are like mine they will end up chasing over 10 lizards and catch a couple along the way.

Another must-see attraction is Balanced Rock, an awe-inspiring natural wonder. This short hike is perfect for kids, as it is easily accessible and offers close-up views of the impressive rock formation. The sight of a massive boulder precariously balanced atop a slender pedestal is a sight to behold. The kids will delight in imagining the forces of nature that sculpted such a unique landscape.

Double Arch provides yet another fantastic adventure for families. This short, easy hike leads to a remarkable double arch formation that stretches across the desert landscape. Children will be thrilled to walk beneath the massive arches, feeling as though they have entered a magical realm. My kids loved climbing up and down this arch and spent a good deal of time playing in the sand at the bottom. The intricate patterns and sheer size of Double Arch make it a sight that leaves a lasting impression on young minds.

The introduction of timed entry in Arches National Park has had a positive impact on the overall experience. With a limited number of visitors entering the park at designated time slots, the trails are less congested, allowing for a more immersive and peaceful exploration. Families can fully appreciate the natural beauty of the park without feeling rushed or crowded. We visited over a holiday weekend and didn’t feel overwhelmed by people at all.

To make the most of the hiking experience in Arches National Park, it is essential to be well-prepared. Comfortable footwear, sun protection, and an ample supply of water are crucial, especially when hiking with children. Exploring the trails early in the day or during cooler hours is recommended to avoid the midday heat and potential crowds.

However, it is worth noting that securing timed entry permits may require some advanced planning and flexibility, as peak times tend to fill up quickly. Families should be prepared to adapt their schedules and secure entry slots well in advance to ensure a seamless visit.

Hiking in Arches National Park with kids and the new timed entry system offers an extraordinary opportunity to witness nature’s wonders up close. From the iconic Delicate Arch to the awe-inspiring Balanced Rock, the enchanting Double Arch, and so many other trails each trail provides a unique and unforgettable experience. With careful planning, families can create cherished memories while fostering a deep appreciation for the natural world and its remarkable geological formations. I know our family is already planning to go back!
