Waterfalls in Cache Valley Utah that Must Be Seen

Cache Valley in Utah is home to many natural wonders, but one of its hidden gems is Providence Canyon, a breathtaking destination that offers a collection of captivating waterfalls. If you’re seeking a thrilling adventure amidst nature’s beauty, this is the place to be. With its lush greenery, crystal-clear water, and awe-inspiring cascades, Providence Canyon promises an unforgettable experience for hikers and nature enthusiasts alike.

To embark on this adventure, you’ll need to plan ahead and be prepared for the semi-challenging terrain. The canyon is best explored April through November when the snowmelt feeds the waterfalls, creating a mesmerizing spectacle. Once snowfall hits in the fall this will not be a friendly hike for most. Here are some instructions to help you make the most of your journey:

  1. Getting There:
    • Cache Valley is located in northern Utah, accessible from Salt Lake City and the surrounding areas. Take I-15 North and then follow the signs to Logan, Utah.
    • From Logan, drive east on Highway 89/91 for approximately 8 miles until you reach the town of Providence.
    • In Providence, turn left onto Canyon Road and continue for about 3.5 miles until you reach the parking area for Providence Canyon.
    • There you will see the Providence Canyon Trailhead where you can hike from the parking lot all the way to the falls. About 6 miles in and back.
  2. Driving to the Falls
    • You can get to the falls by vehicle if you are in a 4X4 vehicle with good clearance as you will drive through water and a really rocky area as you reach the top
    • Once you reach the quarry you can park and explore 3 easy to reach waterfalls
  3. Essential Gear:
    • Wear sturdy hiking shoes or boots that provide good traction.
    • Dress in layers and wear moisture-wicking clothing to stay comfortable during the hike.
    • Pack sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the sun.
    • Carry a backpack with sufficient water (at least 2 liters per person) and energizing snacks for the duration of your hike.
    • Bring a camera or smartphone to capture the stunning scenery.
  4. Hiking Safety:
    • Inform someone of your hiking plans, including the trail you’ll be taking and your estimated return time.
    • Stay on marked trails and be mindful of your surroundings. Providence Canyon’s terrain can be steep and uneven.
    • Keep an eye out for wildlife and respect their habitat by observing from a safe distance.
    • Be cautious near waterfalls and avoid venturing too close to the edges.
    • Check the weather forecast before your hike and avoid the trails during inclement weather or heavy rainfall.
  5. Leave No Trace:
    • Help preserve the beauty of Providence Canyon by following the principles of Leave No Trace. Pack out all trash and dispose of it properly.
    • Respect the environment by refraining from picking flowers, disturbing wildlife, or altering natural formations.

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable experience as you witness the beauty of Providence Canyon’s waterfalls. The combination of lush greenery, rushing water, and serene surroundings will leave you in awe. Enjoy the journey, capture the moments, and create memories to cherish for a lifetime.

Note: Before visiting, check for any updates or restrictions regarding access to Providence Canyon, as conditions may change.
