- CLOSE LIST -

I have taken my kids to a lot of family attractions over the years, and very few have left us as completely mesmerized as the Butterfly Biosphere at Thanksgiving Point.
The moment we stepped through the doors, it felt like we had been transported somewhere far away from Utah. Suddenly we were surrounded by tropical plants, lush greenery, colorful flowers, and butterflies floating through the air in every direction.
As a mom, I am always looking for experiences that get my kids genuinely curious about the world around them. The Butterfly Biosphere did exactly that.
Instead of rushing from one attraction to the next, my kids slowed down. They watched. They wondered. They asked questions. They searched for butterflies hiding among the plants and became completely fascinated by every fluttering wing.

The highlight of the Butterfly Biosphere is the stunning butterfly conservatory.
Inside, you’ll find more than a thousand butterflies from around the world freely flying through a beautiful climate controlled environment filled with tropical plants, winding pathways, and even a waterfall.
My children were amazed every time a butterfly flew close by.
And if you’ve never had a butterfly land on your shoulder or hand, let me tell you, there is something surprisingly magical about it.
You can hear little kids squealing with excitement throughout the conservatory as they spot different species and colors floating through the air.
What surprised me most was how much there was to do beyond the conservatory itself.
The Butterfly Biosphere is also home to a hands on insect museum where kids can learn about bugs, insects, ecosystems, and the important roles these creatures play in our world.
There are interactive exhibits, live insect displays, learning stations, and opportunities to see creatures most kids would never encounter anywhere else.
My kids especially loved exploring the Discovery Zone, where hundreds of live insects are featured in engaging exhibits designed specifically for families and children.

One thing Thanksgiving Point consistently does well is making learning feel like play.
The Butterfly Biosphere is packed with science, biology, and ecology lessons, but kids don’t feel like they’re sitting through a lecture.
They’re busy searching for butterflies.
Watching insects.
Looking at chrysalises.
Exploring exhibits.
And before they even realize it, they’re learning.
As a parent, that’s my favorite kind of educational experience.
Whether you have toddlers, elementary age children, tweens, teenagers, or grandparents tagging along, there is something here for everyone.
Little kids love the butterflies.
Older children enjoy learning about insects and ecosystems.
Adults appreciate the beauty and peaceful atmosphere.
Even grandparents tend to get caught up in the excitement once the butterflies start landing nearby.
It is one of the few attractions where every generation seems genuinely engaged.

One of the reasons I recommend the Butterfly Biosphere so often is because it’s a fantastic year round activity in Utah.
Too hot outside?
Visit the Butterfly Biosphere.
Cold winter day?
Visit the Butterfly Biosphere.
Rainy weather?
Visit the Butterfly Biosphere.
Because the conservatory is indoors and climate controlled, it feels like a tropical getaway no matter what the weather is doing outside.
Some places entertain kids.
Some places educate kids.
The Butterfly Biosphere somehow manages to do both while creating an experience that feels genuinely beautiful.
The best way I can describe it is this: for a little while, everyone stops looking at screens and starts paying attention to the tiny wonders flying all around them.
That’s pretty special.
If you’re searching for family activities in Utah, things to do in Lehi, indoor attractions near Salt Lake City, or memorable experiences at Thanksgiving Point, the Butterfly Biosphere deserves a place on your list.
Just make sure your phone is charged before you go.
You’re going to want a lot of pictures.
