Salt Lake Bees Baseball: Why It’s One of the Best Family Nights Out in Utah

There is something magical about a summer evening at the ballpark.

Maybe it’s the crack of the bat.

Maybe it’s the smell of fresh popcorn and hot dogs.

Or maybe it’s watching your kids race to the edge of their seats every time a foul ball comes their way.

Whatever it is, a night with the Salt Lake City Bees has become one of our favorite family traditions.

As a mom, I love activities that get everyone excited without requiring a ton of planning. A Bees game is exactly that. You show up, grab a snack, find your seats, and let the fun begin. A Salt Lake Bees game checks all the boxes. It is affordable, entertaining, kid friendly, and packed with enough activities to keep everyone happy even if they are not baseball fans.

The New Ballpark Is Worth the Trip

The biggest change for the Salt Lake Bees is their move from downtown Salt Lake City to the new Ballpark at America First Square in South Jordan. The new stadium feels modern, clean, spacious, and family focused.

One of the first things we noticed was how much room there is to move around. Whether you’re grabbing dinner, letting kids explore, or simply walking around the stadium between innings, everything feels designed with families in mind.

The game itself is only part of the entertainment. There are mascots wandering the stadium, between inning contests, music, giveaways, and activities happening throughout the ballpark. By the end of the night, most kids are talking just as much about everything happening around the game as they are about the final score.

Every Kid Dreams of Catching a Baseball

Let’s talk about the real reason many kids spend half the game standing instead of sitting.

They want a baseball.

My children spend every inning watching the sky, hoping a foul ball will come flying their direction.

Will they catch one?

Maybe.

Will they spend the entire game imagining what they’ll do if they catch one?

Absolutely.

And honestly, watching that excitement is half the fun.

Every time a ball heads into the stands, the entire section comes alive.

Bumble Might Be the Real MVP

While baseball is obviously the star of the show, if you ask most kids who their favorite player is, the answer might actually be Bumble.

The Bees mascot has a way of making every game feel like a party.

Whether he is dancing, entertaining fans, posing for photos, or getting the crowd involved, kids absolutely love him.

Every time Bumble appears, my children suddenly become far more interested in what is happening than whatever I was trying to tell them.

Which, if you’re a parent, probably sounds familiar.

You Can’t Go to a Ballgame Without a Hot Dog

Let’s be honest.

A baseball game and a ballpark hot dog go together like summer and sunshine.

There is just something about eating a hot dog while watching baseball that feels right.

My kids insist that ballpark hot dogs somehow taste better than hot dogs anywhere else.

I don’t know if science can explain that, but I completely agree.

Add a drink, a bag of popcorn, maybe some ice cream later in the game, and suddenly you’ve created the kind of summer memory kids talk about for weeks.

You can also enjoy burgers, pizza, nachos, BBQ, pretzels, ice cream, specialty snacks and drinks!

My personal rule though?

A baseball game without a hot dog just feels wrong.

Arrive Early

If you are visiting with younger children, I highly recommend arriving about 45 minutes before first pitch.

This gives kids plenty of time to:

  • Ride the train
  • Play mini golf
  • Explore the play areas
  • Grab food
  • Visit the team store

By the time the game starts, they’ve already burned off some energy and are more likely to enjoy sitting and watching the action.

Theme Nights Make Every Visit Different

One of the fun things about attending Bees games is that every visit feels a little different.

Throughout the season, the Bees host special promotional nights that often include:

  • Fireworks shows
  • Giveaway nights
  • Holiday celebrations
  • Community events
  • Themed entertainment

Before purchasing tickets, it’s worth checking the promotional schedule to see what events are happening during your visit.

It’s More Than Baseball

What I love most about a Bees game is that it is about so much more than baseball.

It’s spending time together.

It’s cheering with strangers who suddenly feel like friends.

It’s watching your kids laugh when Bumble walks by.

It’s seeing the city lights come on as the game continues into the evening.

It’s one of those simple family experiences that somehow feels special every single time.

An Amazing Deal Through GetOut

One of my favorite ways to save money on family adventures is through your GetOut membership. Use Code GWENDOLYN for a great discount!

If you’re already a GetOut member, you’ll know how valuable it can be to access attractions and experiences all over Utah.

The opportunity to enjoy a Salt Lake City Bees game through your membership makes an already affordable family outing an even better value.

For families looking to create more memories without stretching the budget, it is hard to beat.

A Mom’s Final Take

We have done amusement parks.

We have done water parks.

We have done museums.

But there is something timeless about a baseball game.

No screens.

No complicated schedule.

Just an evening together watching baseball, cheering for the home team, high fiving after a great play, and maybe even leaving with a baseball if you’re lucky.

If you’re looking for family activities in Salt Lake City, summer things to do with kids in Utah, or simply a reason to spend an evening together, grab your tickets and head to a Salt Lake City Bees game.

Just be prepared. You may end up with kids who immediately start asking when they’re going back.
